　　1.straight / strait

　　straight. adj. 连续的，笔直的

　　His teeth were perfectly straight.

　　他的牙齿非常整齐。

　　strait. n. 困局

　　The company’s closure has left many small businessmen in desperate financial straits.

　　该公司的关闭使得许多小商人陷入经济困境

　　2.taught / taut

　　两者读音一致，但词性与意思皆不同。

　　taught. vt. teach 的过去式. 教育

　　George had taught him how to ride a horse.

　　乔治曾教过他骑马。

　　taut. adj. 拉紧的

　　The clothes line is pulled taut and secured.

　　晾衣绳被拉紧系牢了。

　　3.statue / statute

　　statue.n. 雕像

　　…a bronze statue of an Arabian horse.

　　…一座阿拉伯马青铜雕像。

　　statute. n. 法令，法规

　　The new statute covers the care for, raising, and protection of children.

　　4. tortuous / torturous

　　tortuous. adj. 弯弯曲曲的

　　5.1. sight / site

　　两个单词读音一致，但意思却完全不同

　　sight . n. 视力，眼界

　　site. n. 地点，位置，场所

　　I was working as a foreman on a building site.

　　我在一个建筑工地当工头。

　　6. stationary / stationery

　　这两个单词也是发音一致，但词性和意思上有所不同。

　　stationary. adj. 固定的，静止的

　　Stationary cars in traffic jams cause a great deal of pollution.

　　交通堵塞中停止不前的车辆造成大量污染。

　　stationery. n. 文具

　　…envelopes and other office stationery.

　　7.sometime / sometimes / some time

　　接下来这三个单词是学生经常分不清的，

　　sometime 是副词，表示 某个时候

　　Why don’t you come and see me sometime.

　　你何不在某个时间来看看我？

　　sometimes 也是副词，表示 常常，经常

　　During the summer, my skin sometimes gets greasy.

　　在夏季我的皮肤有时会变得多油

　　Some time 则是一个短语了， 表示 一些时间

　　My web design took some time to complete, but was worth the wait.

　　网页设计花费了我一些时间，但总算是值得等待。

　　8.storey / story

　　前后两个单词只差了一个字母，而读音完全一致

　　storey. n. 楼层，意思等于floor

　　…long brick buildings, two storeys high.

　　…很长的两层砖楼。

　　story. n. 故事

　　The second story in the book is titled “The Scholar.”

　　这本书中的第2个故事标题为《学者》。
